President Vetoes LIHEAP Funding Bill
As promised, President Bush vetoed the Labor-HHS spending bill for FY 2008 yesterday. The bill had included $2.14112 billion for LIHEAP, $1.98 billion in regular funds and $.4312 billion in emergency contingency funds. The House of Representatives may schedule a vote to override the veto. Meanwhile, LIHEAP remains funded in the continuing resolution that runs the government through this week at the FY 2007 level of $1.98 billion regular funding and $2.1612 billion in emergency funds. Congress will likely extend the continuing resolution soon.
